Auto Theft Probe May Explain Murder-Suicide in Charles County MD, Posted by Meosha Eaton

WALDORF, Md. - Court documents indicate 22-year-old Robert Becker may have shot and killed a popular Charles County high school teacher for revenge. 24-year-old Christopher Hoefert was gunned down in his car after leaving North Point High School Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Middletown and Billingsley Roads. Charles County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson says the motive might have been connected to an ongoing auto theft investigation. The court records show Hoefert implicated Becker in the theft of a Nissan 350Z. The car belonged to Hoefert's roommate and was stolen from in front of the house they shared on Warren Eller Drive. According to the court records, the roommate blamed Hoefert, who initially lied and denied any involvement, but later told officers he helped Becker hide the car after it was stolen. Becker has a previous criminal record. He was arrested for and served time for burglary. He was scheduled to appear in court on February 15 for the start of a trial for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
