"Spider-Man" producer Laura Ziskin dies of cancer, Posted by Meosha Eaton

(Reuters) - Laura Ziskin, the Hollywood producer who helped turn "Pretty Woman" heroine Julia Roberts into a star and brought "Spider-Man" to the big screen, died on Sunday after a public battle with breast cancer. She was 61.

According to a statement from Sony Pictures, where her production company was based, Ziskin died at her Los Angeles home after fighting the disease for seven years.

ZURICH, May 31 (Reuters) - Beleaguered president Sepp Blatter formally opened the 61st FIFA Congress on Tuesday warning of the dangers world soccer's governing body is facing.

The likely successor to Osama bin Laden is Ayman al-Zawahri, an Egyptian who lacks the former Saudi-born figurehead's depth of contacts among potential donors in the Gulf, a region seen in the West as an important funding source for militant groups.

ADDIS ABABA, May 18 (Reuters) - The United Nations has suspended food distribution in Ethiopia's drought-stricken Somali Region after gunmen killed one UN worker and injured another in an ambush on a U.N. convoy last week.

The ethnic Somali province, more commonly known as the Ogaden, is home to a low-key insurgency led by the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), which has fought for independence since 1984.

It is a measure of the trust deficit that many people are questioning whether Osama bin Laden was indeed killed in Pakistan in an operation early Monday morning.

That night, Urdu television channel Express News ‘Kal Tak’ [Until Tomorrow] programme host Javed Chaudhry opened his show with some questions. And while his may not be the most highly rated show, it does provide some idea of the debate in media and street circles.

Mr Chaudhry opened the show by posing some questions. He gave an incomplete list of the seven times that the international media has declared that Osama bin Laden has been declared dead. The first people to do this was Fox News in Dec 2001.This was followed by The New York Times, daily Telegraph, the US president at the time and an Arab newspaper even gave the news of his funeral.

Police Officer Punches Woman In Face During Arrest At I-HOP in ATL, Posted by Meosha Eaton

This video was filmed by a cell phone at an I-HOP in Atlanta around 4:00 in the morning. The woman punched was not even being arrested, until she punched the police officer. Here is a clue, it is not very smart to punch a cop, not even if you are a woman. Bad Idea!

It was not clear what started the struggle around 4 a.m. Sunday, but the incident started as a conflict between the officer, working a second job at the Buckhead restaurant, and another woman with the one who was hit.

A jury has been selected for the trial of Dalia Dippolito, a Florida newlywed who police say tried to hire a hitman to kill her husband last year.

According to the Palm Beach Post, four women and two men were selected late this morning. Two other women were selected as alternate jurors. Opening arguments in the case are expected to begin later today.

The Boynton Beach Police Department became aware of Dippolito's alleged plans to kill 38-year-old Michael Dippolito, her husband of six months, when they were contacted by a confidential informant who claimed to be a former lover. The informant told police that Dippolito, 26, wanted her husband killed because she had spent approximately $200,000 of his money. The informant also said she was afraid of the retaliation she might face if she divorced him, police say.

Lightning strike injures at least 9 people in Michigan, Posted by Meosha Eaton

(CNN) -- At least nine people were injured Tuesday evening when lightning hit a soccer field in Portage, Michigan, authorities said.

The injured were a mix of adults and students, said Charles Wellman, the Portage battalion chief.
Seven people -- one with serious injuries -- were transported to area hospitals, with two others seeking medical treatment on their own, he said.

Portage is six miles south of Kalamazoo in southwestern Michigan.
